- The text was discovered in the town’s parish archive and, once recovered as a work of performance, was incorporated into the local festival cycle.
- The work, the main theme of which deals with the last moments of the life of Mary, her death and assumption in body and soul to heaven, belongs to the assumptionist cycle, which has a great tradition in Catalonia and Catalan-speaking territories.
- Two-thirds of the production are sung a cappella and follow indications that appear in the original manuscript. All the melodies, hymns and liturgical songs were very well known in the Middle Ages and belong to Gregorian and polyphonic repertoire.
- The stage occupies the whole of the parish church of Sant Andreu Apòstol and the lighting constantly spotlights where the action is taking place (Paradise, Mary’s house, the council of the Jews, Mary’s grave and hell) as the actors, by way of a real-life altarpiece, are visible to the audience throughout the performance.
El Misteri de la Selva is intended for audiences of all kinds: both specialists and people with an interest in theatre or in forms of great Christian tradition. Everyone, without a shadow of a doubt, will discover in it a true medieval jewel.
